Greece - Ionian Islands | Cruise on a sailing and catamaran fleet | 7 days

Flottilla in the Ionian islands

From august 17th to august 24th.
The Ionian Islands are a highly recommended destination for those who want to explore the best Greek islands.

the navigation is particularly pleasant due to favorable climatic conditions particularly from June to September. The wind picks up a bit in the afternoon, allowing interesting sails; in the evening the wind drops, allowing peaceful anchorages.

Rich in historical remains, green and suggestive, these islands tell about crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. Hiking between villages rich in restaurants and monasteries is also interesting.

Two weeks to visit the most characteristic islands of this archipelago and also to find out the cultural and gastonomical peculiarities. The stops will be in Lefkada, Cefalonia, Itaka, Zante, Kithira, and minor islands (smaller but very suggestive) Meganissi, Skorpio, Atoko, Arkudi, Kastos, Kalamos.

North route: 17/24 august

Saturday: Lefkas. Boarding and provisioning
Sunday: South Skorpios and Meganissi
Monday: Itaka, swimming in crystal clear water between white sandy beaches and sheltered bays.
Tuesday: Hoist the mainsail to South Itaka to sail near the wind to reach Kefalonia. Evening in fiskardo, the pearl of the local nightlife.
Wednesday: Atokos - “Silence Night” under the stars.
Thursday: Kastos. Regatta and sunset aperitif in the village mill.
Friday: Meganissi and Lefkas. Night package in a secret and ufrogettable location.
Saturday: Landing in Lefkas within 9.00 am.

What to visit:

KEFALONIA
From Itaka you can continue towards the village of Fiskardo, the northernmost island port. The village keeps its traditional features intact; arriving from the sea this is the place that welcome the sailors with restaurants, taverns, small typical shops. Its coasts are characterized by picturesque coves with golden sand or shiny pebbles and craggy cliffs lapped by clear water. The artistic heritage of the island is greatand here you can also observe many wild flowers and it's not unusual to meet seals or sea turtles spawning over southern beaches in June. It's worth to leave the sea for a while to discover the outback: Sant'Andrea's monastery, with precious icons, S. Giorgio's castle built by the venetians in 1504, and also the town of Katelio with its golden sand and a little further the village of Skala, to admire a Roman epoch construction, rich in mosaics.

ITAKA
When you start to see Itaka from the sea a bit of agitation starts to rise as when you were in school, a strange excitement pervades you and the myth gets real: Ulisses is there. You can finally touch the legend. As typical of Ionians, Itaka is sweet, with little dark mountains, surrounded by a nervous sea and a never stuffy atmosphere. Perhaps you should never get there not to break the legend and let the profile behind the stern and continue, or maybe you can give up your childish fantasies and live it as it is: beautiful. No trace of Argo neither of satyrs, no monuments or fake museums, but emotion is in the air. It feels like coming in august in a deserted fiord with crystal clear water. An earthquake in 1953 destroyed everything. The town of Vathy extends around a square with two or three kilometers of winding streets. From Stravos, 17 km northern, start a lot of interesting hikings: an archaeological site unearthed by British experts that shows Mycenaean finds. In just 20 minutes you can climb the hill Pilikata, where according to mythology lived Ulisses.

But this isn't all: Ionian islands are famous for their crystal clear sea, turquoise bays and white sandy beaches. There are also a lot of villages and towns to visit on land as Fiskardo and Lakka, but also restaurants with “pieds dans l’eau”, perched monasteries, venetian bell towers, wineyards and old olive groves.
