NORTHERN ROUTE

KOS
It is the second nautical base in the Dodecanese and one of the most popular destinations for tourists from Northern Europe. But the island of Hippocrates is only the first of the splendid islands that we will touch during our cruise. Then, let's leave the moorings and sail towards the northern archipelago!

PSERIMOS
In addition to the small port on the western side, the island offers landing places to choose according to the wind, such as the deserted bay of Vassilikia on the eastern side, a splendid natural swimming pool. And also the coves north of the islet of Teseremi, or the idyllic anchorage on the east side of the island of Nikro, near the chapel with the turquoise dome.

KALYMNOS
Kalimnos is one of the few Greek islands to preserve a true tradition of sailors and fishing: even today its caiques can be found in Sicily, in the gulf of Sirte, on the Algerian coral reefs or in the other Greek islands. The town of Kalimnos port looks like a small Marseille due to the colours, the lively alleys and the tangle of old and new houses clinging to the arid mountain that characterizes the island. The coast, full of inlets, fjords and islets, offers safe and peaceful shelters.

LEROS
From 1930 to 1940 Leros was of moderate importance in the Aegean, reaching more than 30,000 inhabitants including soldiers, Italian civilians and the local population. Even from Rhodes and the other islands, people came to Leros to find work, go to the theater or to the cinema and to enjoy the little worldliness. The urban center was rebuilt in the 1930s according to the architectural tendencies of Italian Rationalism, of which it was supposed to represent an experiment, and is still today a study destination for many European architects.

LIPSI
A single village, once of fishermen, four miles of coves lashed by the Meltemi, a corollary of shoals and islets, natural pools between rock amphitheatres, where the crystal clear water invites you to dive. This is Lipsi. But the real jewel of the island are the shoals of the mini-archipelago of Aspra Nissi, which offer a spectacular anchorage on the turquoise sea, so transparent as to make three shipwrecks clearly visible on the seabed.

ARKI
In tiny Arki, where the only sound is that of the waves and the wind, stress vanishes forever! Almost uninhabited, the island is barren and covered by Mediterranean scrub, but the coast is indented by small coves and tiny isolated beaches, offering unforgettable sights. One of these is the bay of Tiganakia Arki, reachable only on foot following the infinite maze of paths that cross it, such as the one that leads to the Panaghia, the beautiful white and blue church on top of the hill. The life of its few inhabitants takes place around the small port, the only true center of the island.

PATMOS
Architectural and worldly attraction of international renown, Patmos must be discovered from its interior, starting for example from the climb to reach the ancient Chora, dominated by the fortified walls of the monastery of San Giovanni. Here the view opens onto the medieval village, the miniature square of Aghias Levias and the labyrinth of white houses and "arkontiko", the ancient and rich palaces of the shipowners and notables of the island. Restaurants, clubs, antique shops are teeming in this lively and fashionable island. In the bays, the taverns offering grilled fish and the small protected coves offer those arriving by sea a peaceful break in unspoilt corners.

SOUTHERN ROUTE

NYSIROS
The wild beauty of Nysiros is breathtaking. The black rocks and the white houses with brightly colored doors and windows contrast with the green of the olive trees that line the road to the volcano, up to the main crater where a lunar landscape opens up. Mandraki, the capital of the island, rises under the imposing rock mass of the Monastery of Panaghia Spilianì and behind the black pinnacles scattered in front of the sea. In the alleys and squares, shaded by citrus trees, you can breathe tradition and authenticity.

TILOS
Tilos is a rocky island, except for the small and fertile interior valley, and is the most secluded after Kastellorizo. It is precisely this isolation that gives it a particular charm. Livadia, its small port opens into a cove of pebbles and crystal clear waters, while Megalo Chorio', the capital, lies at the foot of a rocky hill dominated by the medieval castle. In Tilos you can visit an early Christian basilica and the small church of Agios Nikolaos.

CHALKI
Between Rhodes and Tilos, barren, windswept, sunburned, simple and beautiful like simplicity, here is Chalki: a single marina, no cars and a sea with fantastic nuances. The pastel-colored houses look like flowers in the rock and, in the shaded alleys, the taverns invite you to stop amidst the scents of rosemary and the typical aromas of Greek cuisine. An island of lost time with corners that recall the history of knights, pirate raids, ancient inhabitants dedicated to the cult of Zeus. And then the charm of the sheltered coves, the beaches of Kania and Areta and the isthmus of Trachia dominated by the 14th century castle: a place that remains in the heart.

SIMY
A stone's throw from the Turkish coast opens up a scenario of rare beauty: like a neoclassical crib in ocher and pastel colors here is little Simy, the Portofino of the Dodecanese. The proximity to Lycia has influenced its architecture, inspired by the purity of the Doric lines: buildings full of columns and balconies, sometimes coloured, distinguish it from the Cycladic simplicity. Going up from the port of Eghialo, full of taverns and restaurants, you arrive at the capital to admire the Byzantine Kastro and the wall paintings of the church of Panaghia.
