Aegadian islands | The wonders of Aegadian islands cruise | Sailingboat holiday

Sicilia - Egadi 2022

Our cruise - lasting one or two weeks - aims to discover all the most famous places on the Egadi Islands, off the west coast of Sicily. The Egadi Archipelago, a destination not yet overrun by mass tourism, is rich in breathtaking views and natural beauty. The climate is mild and warm almost all year round. Fresh fish is never lacking on the tables of these islands. Fish couscous, barbecued tuna, spaghetti with tuna roe, sea urchins, limpets, langoustines and lobsters are just some of the delicious dishes we will enjoy. Sailing allows you to sample every corner of this area from a different point of view, enjoying the sea to the full, but without forgetting the food and fun that the area has to offer. This summer discover Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo with us. Let yourself be tempted by a sailing cruise in one of the most beautiful places in Italy.

The Islands

FAVIGNANA
With its 19.4 square kilometres and 3500 inhabitants, Favignana is the largest and most populated island of the archipelago. It has the characteristic shape of a butterfly; the eastern part of the island is the flattest and most populated. The Greeks called it Aegusa, while its current name derives from the name of the wind Favonio. In its waters the battle of the Egadi was fought between the Carthaginians and the Romans in 241 BC. The only great relief that divides the island in two is Mount S. Caterina, on the top of which stands the homonymous fort, built by the Normans on pre-existing Arab structures, and enlarged in the 17th century by the Spanish. There are numerous open-air tuff quarries on the island, the bottom of which is now used to shelter crops from the wind. Visit the Tonnara Florio, at the port, an example of industrial archaeology - a reminder of a time when the entire life of the islanders revolved around this activity. Favignana is a very beautiful island, rich in suggestive corners such as its coves (Cala Rossa, Cala Azzurra and Cala Rotonda) and its sea caves, once visited by the monk seal.

LEVANZO
Rugged and rocky, Levanzo is the smallest of the three major islands of the Archipelago. Rich in caves, it is famous for the Grotta del Genovese, which - discovered in 1949 - contains prehistoric paintings and graffiti that testify to a human presence on the island dating back more than 10,000 years. The seabed of Levanzo is considered spectacular, thanks to its beauty and the variety of animal and plant life that animates it.

MARETTIMO
The Greeks called it Hiera: the Sacred Island. Marettimo is one of the most beautiful small islands in the Mediterranean. The island is actually a mountain of dolomite origin, whose highest point reaches 686 metres. An excursion to the island will reserve the view of forests, precipices and panoramas of unspeakable beauty. Not to be missed are excursions to Punta Troia, where there is a castle dating back to the Arabs and fortified by the Spanish in the 17th century. Also of interest are the Case Romane, Monte Falcone (the highest peak in the archipelago), the lighthouse at Punta Libeccio and the famous Cala Bianca.

1 or 2 weeks cruises. Explore the beauty of Aegadian islands: Favignana, the largest and most well known, Levanzo and Marettimo. The area, with its 53,992 hectares, is the largest protected Marine Area in Europe. Not yet overwhelmed by mass tourism, these islands offer a wild and still pristine nature and a mild and warm climate for almost the whole year.
